    Description

GIRON Magnetic Shielding Laminate — For Shielding ELF Magnetic Fields

Magnetic fields are challenging to shield properly, and special materials such as MuMetal and Giron are required. GIRON is a woven, laminated material that is suitable for high field strength applications requiring high saturation and good magnetic permeability.

The material is cut from a 25.5 inch wide roll, and is about 1 mm think.  It can be cut with a tin snips or sheet metal tools, and can be used either flat or molded roughly into shapes for best performance.  It can be glued, taped, nailed, screwed or riveted into place.  Unfortunately, Giron is not as easy to use, bend, cut, and shape into the desired form as MuMetal, but it is highly effective.

Works with AC or DC magnetic fields (0-1000 Hz), and will tolerate temperatures from 32° to 140°F. Laminated within a 0.005 inch glass reinforced polypropylene tape which is UV sensitive, cover if installation is exposed to direct sunlight. Cut edges will corrode. For corrosion resistance and for outside applications, consider MuMetal shielding foils instead.

I always recommend testing with an accurate gaussmeter (such as the Alpha UHS2 Gaussmeter) to be sure that you are reducing the levels properly.  If possible, a telephone consultation is recommended to help develop an effective shielding design.  Improper placement can increase the levels in certain situations.
