Rental Meter Fees & Deposits

Seven-Day-Rental program:  To help reduce your costs, and yet use accurate and reliable EMF test meters, we provide a special 7-day-rental program.  You can rent the EMF test meters individually – or in a 3-meter combo package (at a discounted rate to measure all 3 kinds of EMFs together).

Rental deposit required:  In addition to the rental fee, a deposit fee will also be charged upfront.  The appropriate portion of your prepaid deposit will be refunded back to you after the rental meters are returned in good condition to us.

Rental Meter Agreement:

1. Deposit Required:  When you place an order for a rental meter, your credit card or PayPal account will be charged the rental fee plus a refundable deposit fee.  (Initially, you will pay the full purchase price, which equals the rental fee plus the deposit.)
2. Deposit Amount:  The rental deposit is equal to the full purchase price of that test meter when new (including sales tax in California), minus the 7-day rental fee (including sales tax in California).
3. Refund of Your Deposit:  When you place an order for a rental meter, your credit card or PayPal account will be charged for the full purchase price of the test meter. Then, when you return the rental meter to us (a) in good condition, and (b) within the agreed rental time and shipping period, we will refund to you the difference (your deposit amount) within five working days.
4. Rental Agreement:  Our standard rental fee includes (a) your use of the rental meter for seven full days, starting on the day that you actually receive it, plus (b) starting on the eighth day, the added time required for ground shipment from your location back to us.
5. Additional Rental Time:  If you want to use the rental meter for more than a week (or if you are late in returning the rental meter for any reason), additional weeks will be charged, but at one-half of the original weekly rate. The fees for this added time will be deducted from your prepaid deposit (and thus decrease the deposit amount refunded to you when the rental meter is returned to us).
6. Convert to Purchase:  If you wish to keep the rental meter and convert your rental into a purchase (or if you fail to return the rental meter to us for any reason), we will simply convert the remainder of your deposit towards the full purchase of that test meter. There is nothing else you need to pay. Note: We provide the same one-year warranty on your purchase of a rental meter, as with a new meter.
7. California Residents:  In addition to the standard deposit amount, your prepaid deposit fee will also include sales tax on the deposit amount.  When you return the rental meters, your refund will include a refund of the appropriate sales tax.

Rental Program Details:

Rental period:  The one week rental period begins on the day that you actually receive the meters from us, usually via FedEx.  Then after 7 days of use, you ship the meters back to us.

Standard Shipping Fee: Shipping fees are always $15 per shipment, whether that includes one, two or three rental meters.  This offer is only for the 48 contiguous states in the USA, using FedEx Ground, UPS Ground, or USPS Priority Mail.  There may be additional shipping fees required for Hawaii and Alaska.  (We regret that we cannot ship rental meters to Canada or any other countries outside of the USA.)

Expedited Shipping:  You can also pay for expedited shipping, which would be $10 for expedited handling plus the actual full FedEx Express cost.  For expedited shipping, please call our office, do not order over the internet.

Returning the rental meters:  After seven days, you simply pack up the rental meters and ship them back to us via any common ground shipment service such as FedEx, UPS, or US Priority Mail.  You pay the cost of the return ground shipment plus insurance, typically in the range of $10 to $20.

Sales tax:   California residents also pay sales tax on the rentals.  (Special note: your prepaid deposit fee will also include sales tax on the deposit amount.  When you return the rental meters, your refund will include a refund of the appropriate sales tax.)

Payments accepted:  We accept Visa, Master, Discover, American Express and PayPal.

Tested and certified meters:  Every rental meter is individually checked by us for proper operation before we ship them out.

Damage to the rental meters:  At our discretion, if you return the test meters in a damaged condition, we will apply the appropriate portion of your prepaid rental deposit towards the cost of the repair or replacement of that test meter.

Half price for extra weeks:  If you wish to keep the rental meter for any extra weeks, that is no problem, just let us know.  The additional weeks are charged at only half of the first week rate.

Convert your rental into a purchase:  If you wish to keep the rental meter (or if you fail to return the rental meter to us for any reason), we will simply convert the remainder of your deposit towards the full purchase of that test meter.  There is nothing else you need to pay.  We provide the same one-year warranty on your purchase of a rental meter, as with a new meter.

Convert your rental into purchase of a new meter:  You can also ship the rental meter back to us and apply the appropriate part of your deposit toward the purchase of a new meter of the same model.  But please note that you will then have some additional costs (a) your cost to ship the rental back to us, plus (b) the actual full cost for us to ship a new meter to you, plus (c) a $10 additional handling fee for our extra time.

Outside of the USA:  Unfortunately, we do not ship rental meters to Canada and other countries.  You can purchase the meters through our “Buy from our Distributor in New York” option on the sales pages.

Prices:  7-Day-Rental Prices for the Rental Meters and 3-Meter Packages:

The Alpha UHS gaussmeter, used to measure the ELF magnetic fields from power lines, electric panels, electrical wiring, and appliances, and the VLF magnetic fields from fluorescent lights, LEDs, electronics and computers, rents for $69 (plus $230 deposit).

The Body Voltage Meter, used to measure the electric fields that are often anecdotally associated with EMF sensitivity and transport the dirty electricity signals through the air from the electrical wiring to your body, rents for $65 (plus $84 deposit).

For measuring the radio frequency fields, there are three meters we recommend.  For most people, we recommended the Acoustimeter, which rents for $89 (plus $310 deposit).  If you are on a tight budget, the Acousticom is usually sufficient and rents for $65 (plus $164 deposit).  And for certain special testing purposes, the TES 593 rents for $99 (plus $400 deposit).

Discounted 3 meter combo packages:  We also offer discounted prices for packages which include all three meters needed to measure all three different kinds of EMF.  All the packages include the Alpha UHS gaussmeter for the magnetic fields, and the Body Volt meter for the electric fields.  Your choice is which radio frequency meter to use.

For most people, we recommend the 3-meter package with the Acoustimeter.  This is $189 for a week (plus $630 deposit).  This is a savings of $34 compared to renting individually.

For tight budgets, the 3-meter package with the Acousticom is adequate for most people.  It rents for only $169 (plus $480 deposit), saving you $30 compared to renting individually.

In all cases, the shipping fee is only $15 for the entire 3-meter package (within the 48 contiguous states in USA, additional shipping fees may apply for Alaska and Hawaii)
